I will tell you one thing about the Talmud. 99% of the idiots reading through it don't have the basic understanding to either conceptualize or contextualize what they are reading. Not because it's dark text, which it is, but because the "why" behind its laws escapes them. The Talmud is a master-class on how to separate oneself from self-punishment. How to detach from your own, self-inflicted karma. People read it as a religious text, but in its function - it is a completely different thing. It is the ultimate guide to "getting away with it". Of course, this is a temporary solution to the problem of spiritual seclusion. Fragmentation of the psyche has a great toll on the spirit.
