Functional atheism and the death of the West.
Heroes don't die in wars, they are born in it.
While cowards die long after the war is over. They remain alive for a time, walking in the shadows of greater men, until they fade away into a life of obscurity, ridden with guilt and shame as they're eaten up by their own mediocrity.
Europe, and the west, won't have the luxury of a hero's death, unfortunately.
The issue with the west is a spiritual one, where the same peoples who once created and respected the knightly code, and those same cultures who gave birth to Merlin, Arthurian legend, Richard the Lionheart and hosted the court of Charlemagne have all but abandoned any remnants of chivalry they once held.
When a society rejects faith and God, they not only depart from religious expression, but they gain the greatest curse a man can impart unto himself - boredom.
And the only thing a bored man can do is think about entertainment - he has no purpose, no inspiration, no great vision or goal to devote himself to. He only seeks cheap pleasures and those cheap pleasures then, over time, define who and what he is.
This is the image of the western man - nowhere to be found. Nowhere important at least.
What is atheism and nihilism other than the rejection of higher ideals and the idolization of the self - where a whole civilization's narcissism and self-absorption and egoism reaches such levels that they are, quite literally, unable to empathise with the suffering of their own flesh and blood, and the destruction of their once-brilliant culture.
In a society where morals, higher ideals and God are abandoned and deemed less important than man-made law which is inherently flawed, then law and lawmakers become its gods.
This is what we're seeing in the west, a slow and painful death of sense and sacredness. Personal liberation at the cost of everyone and everything else.
When you live selfishly, when you live only for personal gain and benefit and remove divinity from the equation, all there is left is meaninglessness and death - and thus you become a worshipper of death, as death defines your every anxious, insecure act in this life.
Every single thing you do equates to "one last treat before the world goes down."
A pathetic existence whose lessons are learned only after it's ended.
"They're making the last film
They say it's the best
And we all helped make it
It's called the death of the West
A star is rising in our northern sky
And on it we're crucified
A chain of gold is wrapped around this world
We're ruled by those who lie"
