Life has taught me that you do yourself a big favor by becoming elitist about who you choose as friends. It will, most likely, affect your future in very serious ways. Easiest metric to get a read on people is by observing what they laugh at. What a person finds funny will tell you everything you need to know. The lowest caste is if someone finds nasty things funny, like: "har har he put a finger up his nose and pulled a booger out!" Not even worth wasting your time on these types. The second lowest caste are people who find other people's pain funny. Like if someone gets their hand stuck in a closing door and his first reaction at their visible pain is to laugh at them. These are barely redeemable. Barely. But usually totally not worth your time. The third lowest caste are those who find the misfortune of others funny - say your friend lost big in a casino one day and they'd find that funny like "yoo, bro's gonna be eating toast for the next month lmaoo". These are usually just ignorant and immature. Again, redeemable but not worth the effort. The fourth lowest caste are people who find contrast funny - like a really short girl with a super tall guy or vice versa. Or someone wearing weird clothes on the bus or whatever. We all notice, believe me, but only the idiots love to call it out. But the worst of any of these, by far--and I absolutely stay as far away from these as possible--is the person who can't find themselves funny. If they can't laugh at their own bullshit. That is the dirtbag that's going to put a knife in your back and twist it just to get a laugh out for himself. Ignore at all costs. Who you let into your circle matters. Research proves that your friend group defines your trajectory more than you know. A successful friend group is directly correlated with increase in personal success.
