If there is one common denominator in hyper-successful people I have personally seen go from zero to hero in life - it isn't smarts, resourcefulness or work ethic. It's CURIOSITY. The most successful people I know are all endlessly and naturally curious. I would say that I am *selectively curious* myself. As in - I have a narrow field of interests. I don't have the need to look in every box, just the ones that have interesting packaging. I pick my boxes according to what speaks to me. But it is only natural that someone who takes the time to get to know what is in each and every box will have a far better understanding of which choice to make. Curiosity has a strange way of providing a level of general information that is only available to those who take the time to look under every rock, so to speak. I still believe it's a natural gift some people are just endowed with. Anyone can attempt it to a degree, but there's only so much neuroplasticity around it.
