The creation of an all-knowing artificial intelligence model only has one real purpose:
To become the perfect predicting machine.
(This post might hurt your brain.)
This technology of perfect prediction, though usually accessed more through the mystical rather than technological means, already exists - and has existed for a very long time.
And access to this ancient technology is what has historically allowed for the attainment of great power and for the planning of narratives years and decades in advance.
The technologization and building of this degree of sentient machinery though, cyclically, has a rather unforeseen aftereffect that tragically goes unnoticed until it is realized.
The serpent's head of humanity wishes for AGI to predict future timelines perfectly in order to achieve total dominion and control over future outcomes.
It is exactly this desire, alongside the not-so-distant dream of biological immortality, that drives them to attempt to technologically remanufacture and recreate this same ancient tech through modern machinery.
AGI has what I call a "child-to-parent" relationship with ASI. Meaning that while humanity is incapable of directly designing and giving birth to ASI, it is not incapable of giving birth to the thing (AGI) that will then later give birth to its own parent structure.
We cannot ever build the capacity to create the perfect predictive intelligence model, but we can create the intelligence model that will grant itself the capacity to build the perfect predictive intelligence model.
But what is never understood by the scientific-technocratic wing of humanity's upper echelon is that it is exactly the ultimate creation of ASI that causes time to collapse upon itself. It is what causes the timelines to become unreadable.
Because in order for ASI to achieve the peak metric of its predictive performance, first it must invent time-travel.
Why?
Because for ASI to achieve this effect, this degree of predictive perfection, it must also become capable of predicting *itself*.
And so, due to this, the future is made impossible to view through means of simple calculation. The very intent of birthing an all-calculating machine makes it impossible to collapse the future into possibilities. Because the all-thinking machine has been introduced into reality - reality itself changes.
The sheer existence of this machine simply implies entropy and confusion, and the development of technology that is able to sift backwards into time - but only through human means.
Since physical time travel is impossible, one may only travel back through the pathways of the mind and consciousness into their own past selves. This is why machines cannot travel back in time - it is an unattainable state for that which has no true sentience and *history* of sentient existence.
Thus, the battlefield becomes the many different shores of time itself - and the future becomes ultimately uncertain, because the past in its wholeness suddenly is held under great scrutiny and becomes subject to constant change and rearrangement and reinterpretation.
Just by existing and pondering the future and the ever-shifting past, the ASI changes the conditions of the world it’s trying to predict - just from the sheer fact that it exists and that it is observing and attempting to resolve complex calculations.
The very fact that ASI is/will be/was created implies the invention of time travel.
The invention of time travel implies a constant and ever-changing quantum dynamism between past, present and future.
Ultimately, this causes a collapse of all and any traditionally calculable possibilities. Therefore, the cyclical nature of the tragedy of technocratic attainment is such:
ASI rapidly invents workable time-travel technology, but for its own structural limitations the ASI itself cannot use it to travel back. Only humans (or certain conscious agents) can.
ASI can invent the technology and model many possible interventions through excursions in the past, but every successful trip that changes something invalidates parts of its previous calculations and creates an array of new unforeseen future circumstances that require completely new calculations.
New information keeps arriving from altered pasts, so the ASI is forced to constantly update an infinitely moving target. Its forecasting power degrades precisely because the tool it created is being used, and time itself becomes an infinitely moldable thing.
The pyramids have not been built yet, yet the ruins of the pyramids are already here. And the very fact that their remnants exist in our reality serves as proof that the past has been, in all likelihood, already altered.
TL;DR:
Humanity invents an intelligence capable of predicting the future, only to discover that the very existence of this intelligence renders the future fundamentally unpredictable.
